Zombie Confessions

My Halloween costume post is a little anti-climactic because this is my only "costume" this year. I had a really good idea planned for my guy and me, but ended up not getting a chance to wear it out so we may save it for next year. Instead, I simply wore my zombie shoes (thanks, Britni!) on Halloween! And sharing these outfit photos seemed like the perfect time share my zombie confession.

Those who know me are well aware that I have a fascination with sci-fi. I love me a good show on ghosts or UFOs (hello Ghost Hunters and Ancient Aliens!). But for the longest time zombies were just not something I could get into. I simply just didn't understand the appeal.

Then somehow a sample of a post-apocalyptic book called Aftertime ended up on my kindle app and one day I started reading it. And I got hooked. In the book, they called the undead "Beaters" which made me feel like I could enjoy it without being a zombie story enthusiast.

At the end of the book, I realized it was part of a trilogy. So naturally I read the next two books. I was still sort of in denial at this point, but then I unwillingly watched an episode from the second season of The Walking Dead. To my surprise, I found myself completely drawn in to the story.

But I still couldn't admit I liked zombies.

When I watched the first season of The Walking Dead on Netflix with Sean, that's when I finally realized that I had a thing for zombie stories. After that sixth episode ended and I was bummed that Netflix didn't have season two available for streaming, I couldn't deny it any longer.

I liked Zombies. And it's just snowballed from there.

Angie told me about this post-apocalyptic podcast called "We're Alive" that I've become totally hooked on. The first episode originally aired in May 2009 so there has been a lot of time for them to develop the story. I overzealously listened to the nearly 50 episodes until I caught up to the most recent installment. I even got my fella hooked on it.

I can no longer claim I don't like zombies. Because I do.

Most recently, I've caught up to current episodes of The Walking Dead and just found a new post-apocalyptic book to read called Apocalypse-Z. I'm not very far into it just yet, but I love how it starts off at the very beginning and tells the story as society complete devolves.

Also, I'm fairly convinced I could survive a zombie apocalypse because I'm way smarter than most of the characters in these stories. It's called common sense, people. Get it, or get eaten.

I'm such a nerd.

I for one have to admit that I take solace in the fact that you are also an enthusiast in this. It just means that we will live when #za happens. So happy that these shoes got some play.

Read all three books thanks to you! I liked them because they provided a different kind of story than I'm used to. Also, I definitely need to get more book recommendations from you!
