Half Moon Manicure

SF Bay Area Style Blog - Half Moon Manicure Using Julep Nail Color

Not too long ago, I was asked to do a nail video on my half-moon technique. I actually used to do the half moon mani with page enforcement stickers (as seen on my guest post for Forever 21), but as I've gotten more practice at polishing with a steady hand, I have found it more time-efficient to simply freehand it.

For this time around, I started with one coat of Julep's Ginger, a gorgeous beige lacquer with a holographic finish. Once the first coat was dry, I used Julep's Joan, a plum-colored polish with flecks of gold, to carefully paint around the half moon of each nail. Yes, this method means you'll probably get polish on your skin, but that is easily cleaned up with a nail art brush dipped in polish remover.

Now see how I do it!

From top to bottom: Ginger, Joan, Freedom Polymer Top Coat, all Julep

I finished up this manicure with Julep's Freedom Polymer Top Coat. It was my first time using it and I can say that I love the way it goes on. It's got a great consistency and dries fairly fast. However, I think I may prefer a more glossy finish.

This is so cute. I've been doing this totally backwards and trying to paint the "moons" on after. Thanks so much for breaking it down. WAY easier this way.

You should definitely give it a go with some of those new Zoya polishes you just swatched! I'll bet that would look rad!
