By the way...
I purchased these Chinese Laundry boots back in October. I don't know what the average life span is of a pair of shoes, but I have many pairs that are 5+ years old and some that are probably closing in on 10. So needless to say, I expected these to last more than just a few months. I haven't worn these much since December because the stitching has started to come undone on several places on both boots. So, based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend buying Chinese Laundry brand shoes if you're hoping to wear them for more than just a couple of months... ;)

inVESTed in a DIY

Okay, so the idea for this vest has been floating around in my head for a long while. Despite having lots of free time on my hands, I somehow managed to find endless reasons to put it off. Being a perfectionist, DIY projects tend to scare me a little. Because, what if I mess up?

I finally went ahead and did it.

I took an old vest from Forever 21 that I didn't really wear ever and meshed it with the back of an old band T-shirt. It turned out a little skeletal, which I kind of like. I might re-do this project, but this time make the front of the vest as well as the back.

My next roadblock was I had put zero thought into what I might wear with it once it was made. This is what I came up with.

Photobucket

The green shirt is from Old Navy, the jeans are Forever 21, the boots are from gojane.com, the necklaces are handmade and from Aldo, and of course the vest is a handmade/Forever 21 hybrid.

Inquiring mind

Many of you have been asking about my missing camera and whether or not I've found or replaced it yet. As of today, it is still missing. I've searched high and low and it's nowhere to be found. A few days after Christmas, I bought another camera. I can't call it a replacement camera because it simply does not replace the one that I lost. I ended up purchasing a Nikon S 210. It's a fine camera, but when comparing it to the Olympus SP550 I used to have. I would say the thing that I miss the most is the 18x optical zoom. I'm determined to learn to love this new camera though.

Judge the photo quality for yourself...
This is today's outfit. I didn't do much in it today. Just went a met with a counselor at a prospective school today.

Photobucket

This comfy gray sweater from target has been in frequent rotation throughout fall and winter. It's actually surprising that I haven't managed to get it in a photo yet. Underneath it I've got the black double U dress from American Apparel and shiny leggings from Target. On my feet are some black lace-up boots from gojane. I seriously love that site for affordable footwear. The black skinny belt tying it all together is off of a dress I bought from Express a long while back.

After much deliberation , I finally decided on a pair of eyeglasses to buy. I ordered them last week and they finally arrived today. Thanks to all my Kaboodle friends for helping me choose the glasses. I haven't worn a pair of since I was probably 15. Lacking Inspiration

I was noticing that I haven't posted outfit photos in quite some time. It's not that I haven't really put thought into outfits and it's not that I haven't taken pictures. It's sort of just that my lack of inspiration is totally coming through in my outfits and photos.

Then and now

I found this shirt a couple weeks ago while rummaging through some old boxes that are in storage. I originally got it when I was a Senior in high school for a Sadie Hawkins dance. Both my date and I wore this shirt. I tried to capture a copy of a photo of us wearing the shirts, but seeing as how I still haven't found a scanner, I did not succeed.
So that was then, this is now.

The other houndstooth skirt

Monday night, my sister and I had a free evening and decided to walk around the outdoor mall downtown. It was pretty chilly, but we stayed warm enough. I was mainly looking for a top to wear as part of my Halloween costume, but didn't really find anything. I ended up getting way more than I planned on getting considering I went there for costume needs, but I'm quite satisfied with my purchases. This skirt is just one of the things that I got that night.

The Other Houndstooth Skirt

The houndstooth skirt I got super on sale from Express, thanks Steph for making me go in there and trying it on. The light blue oxford shirt came from a trip to Old Navy when I needed to kills some time in between jobs. I really can't remember where the black tights came from or what the brand might be. I got the black oxford lace-up shoes new on eBay.

Black and... well... black

The weather is finally appropriate for wearing things like tights and blazers...
and it's about time!

This is the dress is one of the awesome deals that I got at Ross a few weeks back. I decided to pull out my old black blazer that I've had for eons. I got this back when I first started working at that one lingerie store in the mall and I wore it out. It's been given a pretty long break and now I'm ready to work it back in to reaglar rotation. I decide to wear both of the necklaces that I made this past weekend as well.

Can't get enough...

It's no secret, I've definitely subscribed to the fall trend of plaid. It's an obsession that probably won't go away for a while. I've decided that I don't much care for abstract or random prints. However, more patterned prints such as plaid, stripes, polka dots, houndstooth, etc., I really like. My bet is that whatever in my brain that makes me like such planned prints is the same thing that makes me love to be matchy-matchy.

This is a shirt you've seen before in a very different way. You may remember I thrifted this shirt a few months back. Since then, I've altered it a bit. I took in the sides and the sleeves to fit me a little better and I think I like it this way.

I can tell these boots are going to be a big part of my wardrobe this fall, so get used to seeing them!

Makeup Cheer Up

Yesterday wasn't the greatest days as far as moods go. To cheer myself up, I did something I haven't done in a long time. I went down to Walgreens at lunch, because it's really close to work, and I browsed the makeup there. I ended up with just three items.

Makeup Cheer up
Loreal Endless in 730 Saucy Sangria, Loreal Bare Naturale Mineral Powder in 416 Natural Beige, Covergirl Lash Blast in Very Black

I decided the powder would be my purse backup for the Jane Iredale powder that I normally use. I figured it would be great for that considering there is a mirror on the back and a mini brush inside. I've tried Lash Blast before, but since I've been wearing mascara from the Lash Stash lately, I had forgotten how much I love it. The lipstick was just shouting "Wear me! I'm a great Autumn color!" as I walked by so I had to grab it.

Ultimately, it did cheer me up, so the plan was successful!

Another outfit geared towards the fall. These tights caused some stir, but definitely not as much as the floral tights.

I'm too "sexy" for these tights...

Ha! Not.
In my mind, tights are not something I think of as sexy.

I've been excited about wearing tights this fall so I've been stocking up, no pun intended, on tights and socks. I've got a pretty good base collection started and I'm looking forward to adding more.

Now that fall is officially here, I've allowed myself to really start wearing tights. At the top of my list were these floral patterned tights I picked up at Payless when checking out some of their shoes in person.

Wearing this outfit to work has made me doubt the tights thing. Apparently men find tights sexy, who knew? I'm pretty sure 75% of the men that saw me commented on my tights. All the extra attention made me a little self-conscious.

I'm not giving them up yet though, I've got several more pairs to try out!

Hello Autumn!

Well I've been hearing around the blogosphere as often as I've been thinking it. We've all been waiting for Autumn to arrive to texturize and layer out wardrobe.

As of yesterday, Autumn is here.

This is what I wore to ring in the new season.

Early morning, lunchtime and a bad habit

First off, I woke up at 3AM this morning.
Try as I might, I couldn't go back to sleep. My brain automatically starting running through the routine that I had to teach this morning to get ready for homecoming.
I had to be up at 4 anyway to get ready for practice, but I was still bugged. I so could've used that extra hour of sleep.

Despite the early morning, my day has ended up being splendid. The boots that I ordered from Gojane.com arrived today. It made me actually excited for the cooler weather that we're scheduled to have this weekend. Troy brought in these delicious cookies that his sweet wife made. Also, Marrdy stopped by today so we got to chat before I left for lunch.

At lunch, I went to the office where my sister and one of my brothers work. I visited with the two of them for a bit before heading back to work.

Steph took this photo and I really liked the composition of it. Go Steph!

Now lets talk about a bad habit I've picked up sometime over the last few months.
Plaid Target Dress - I have a bad habit
Take a peak in the upper left hand corner at my finger nails.
Ugly, right?
Every time I paint my nails, the next day I start to pick at the polish. It is not something that I conciously do, I just look down and notice I've chipped off half the polish. I really hate that I do this because I'm constantly having to repaint my nails.
Any suggestions on how to quit this bad habit?

Feeling crafty

I woke up last Saturday with the urge to make something. I found myself at the fabric store. After wander for probably half an hour, I ended up with a couple different fabrics. By the end of the day on Saturday, I ended up with this skirt. After wearing it all day, I have decided that I might unstitch it and make some adjustments to it.

When is the last time that I wore pants?

Going through my photos, I've realized I don't wear pants of any kind very much anymore. I used to wear jeans basically everyday. Now, not so much. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that during the summer, I must endure dry, desert heat. However, with fall coming on, I'm still planning on wearing skirts and dresses. I'll just be accessorizing them with tights, scarves, boots, cardigans and jackets.

I recently found these jeans on amazon.com for only $17. I had never tried Seven7 jeans so I figured, why not? They're cheap. I've worn them a couple times and I'm pretty satisfied with them for casual wear.

I talked in my Child Style post about how I am a very matchy-matchy person. I tend to match my accessories a lot. Try as I might, I can't stop doing it.
And I'm okay with that.

Houndstooth skirt

The other day I came across a houndstooth skirt on eBay. I'm a teeny bit in love with all things houndstooth so I snatched it up with the "buy it now" feature for a pretty decent price. I'm the sort of eBayer that pays it right away, I've always found it strange that there is usually a few days allowance to pay.

Forty-eight hours later, I have the gorgeous skirt in my hands. For that reason I wanted to give a shout out to Mel and her eBay store Mel's Shoppe Vintage. That is the absolute fastest I've received something that I bought online. I am beyond pleased.

Shooting stars

This morning, I saw a shooting star for the fourth day in a row. It reminded me of something Wendy said to me last week when she saw one. She said, that because she saw that star, it was going to be a good day. Well shouldn't that mean that I'm having a good week?

Well, it's not been a bad week...
I guess that's good, right?

Preppy girl

So I had a few compliments from co-workers about this outfit and obviously I was feeling pretty good about it.

Then the creepy guy that comes into the office once or twice a week came in and couldn't stop staring. As if that wasn't enough, he had to go and say the word "wow" with three syllables and then tell me that I'm looking "real-ly good!"
Thanks, but um no.
Go away.
You're creepy.

He makes me want to come in to work wearing my grubby sweats with no makeup on.

Anyone else have that creepy person that makes them want to hide every time you see them coming?

Plaid dreams

This outfit is basically the same concept as an outfit I wore last week. Call me lazy, but I loved how it turned out so I decided to apply the concept with different clothes. Body-con dress as the base, throw on an old button up shirt, roll up the sleeves and tie it off with a belt at the waist. Pretty simple.

Granny Shirt

After my first successful alteration project, I've been kind of wanting to buy old clothes and alter them for me.

At the thrift store, the stripes on this shirt called to me. The faded stripes and the lightweight fabric wanted me. Something about this top reminds me of my grandma. Either she had a shirt like this or she had something similar to this.
I had to have it.

Let me tell you, this shirt is gigantic. The sleeves have no cuff, they just flow loosely mid-forearm. I cannot wait to make some changes to it and see what I come up with. I'm not sure what exactly I want to do with it yet, all I know is that I have a lot of material to work with.

Before I alter it, I wanted to wear it "as is" first.

This is the outfit I pulled together.

Water works

It's the debut of one of the Richard Chai dresses I purchased from Target's Go International collection! I'm still in love with my Nine West shoes and I thought they worked great with the dress.

It was Roady's idea to go to this fountain so props to him for the great location and for the photography.

With or without you

The jacket that is.

It was just one of those days…

I woke up late.
The outfit I picked out the night before didn’t end up working.
My clean bedroom was littered with clothes, shoes and hangers before I came up with this…

I started out with the dress. Added the belt, then the shoes. It didn’t feel complete so I grabbed the jacket on the way out the door. I didn’t spend much time wearing the jacket, it was far too hot today.

Black & Blue

I felt like messing around with the navy blue and black color scheme again. I threw some old pieces together with my new shoes and this belt that I picked up at Target for $2.50. It was a peculiar choice in my eyes, but I like how it turned out.

Bruised

So here is the outfit I created based on the Rag & Bones outfit I mentioned a couple posts ago.

It has taken a long time to be able to wear navy and black together. Now I quite like it.

I bought these pants with summer in mind. I hate how most of my full length pants, even my skinnies, cover up all my cute summer shoes. I bought these pants at a shorter length so that I wouldn’t have to deal with this problem.

Two things, I'm loving these shoes so much and I've also decided I don't like posing in grass.

Forever Twenty Two

Monday was a day that called for a little bit of retail therapy.

The A/C in my car went out last week and I haven’t been able to get it fixed yet. Driving to the mall for my part-time job (for the discount) I was sweating through my dress in the desert heat of Utah. I was in such a hurry to get out of my car that I ended up in the mall with lots of time to spare before my shift started. I ended up walking through Gadzooks, which carries Forever 21 products. Without even trying, I ended up leaving with four items.

I tried on the top half of this outfit with a pair of black skinnies, but it didn’t seem right. I tried on the skirt instead and I liked it. That is how I ended up wearing three of my new items in one outfit; the flower ring, the scarf and the skirt.

The skirt is all wrinkled from sitting at my desk all day. That’s life…

Temporary Insanity

Its the debut of my semi-controversial new shoes! I decide to actually wear my purple AA dress as a dress for a change. The sweetheart neckline is one of my favorite ways to wear it. I usually freeze in my office and I don't like to make the men in the office all hyper so I had to find something to cover my arms. I hadn't worn my motorcycle jacket in a while so I ended up wearing that.

Yeah, I must've lost my mind.
Seriously, does anyone in their right mind wear a leather jacket in the middle of the summer?

I only lasted with the jacket till lunchtime...

Daily Outfit

I picked this dress up on the clearance rack at Urban Outfitters without even trying it on. The color just drew me to it like a moth to a flame. It also has the cutest criss-cross back. Why oh why did I forget to capture a picture of the back of it? I love the light, airy fabric with the tiny floral print on it.

I loving this belt too! Its a men's size 38 so I have to twist it around itself and I love the looks this creates.

I know I wear these shoes entirely too much, but they're pretty much my favorite one right now.

I happened to by carrying around my new bag as well, so I kept it with me for the pictures.

Daily Outfit

I haven't been doing daily outfits lately because its been really hard to take pictures of myself. I bought a tripod last week before I left for Powell so now I should be able to keep up on it more regularly.

Daily Outfit

Recently I mentioned signing up for Chictopia.com. I decided that if I'm going to be taking pictures of my outfits for that site, I should follow Miss Cedar's advice and start doing Daily Outfit posts.

---------------------

I'm still struggling with wanting to wear my new spring clothing, but not wanting to freeze all day. Utah weather is being slow to warm up this spring and I'm becoming impatient. This outfit is a result of that compromise.
