About this look...
I've had this polka dot skirt in my closet for ages! It actually part of a set I snagged for a quarter at an estate sale at least a year ago. I've worn the matching top before (last seen here), but I haven't ever gotten around to rockin' the skirt--until now!

I was originally wearing this outfit with a different skirt, but something about it didn't mesh so I swapped it out for this spotted beauty. The navy paired with the mint is one of my new favorite color combos. I slipped on my clear heels and then toned down the lady-like vibe with the neon yellow satchel.

The Denim Jacket that Almost Wasn't

I've been wanting to share the story behind the DIY dip-dyed denim jacket I wore to last week's Lucky FABB Conference. I had been wanting to try Erica Domesek's dip-dye technique ever since I saw it on WhoWhatWear, but I've always been a little scared of bleach. I finally got up the guts to do it a few weeks ago, but instead of shorts or pants, I decided to do it to one of my denim jackets.

I pulled on my gloves, mixed up one part bleach and two parts water in my bucket, and dunked my jacket up to the chest area. After thirty minutes I went back to check on the progress and was surprised to see that thought the solution had been a little brown, very little had changed on the jacket. Her instructions said it may take a few dips so I tried again. But after another thirty minutes, there still wasn't much change. I added more bleach to my next solution and dipped for another half an hour. After that round, I finally saw a shift. I sort of loved the gradual gradient and very nearly stopped here.

But I decided to press on for my original intended result. The only problem was I had used up all the bleach I had on hand. The next day I bought the biggest jug of bleach I could find and started again, this time mixing a solution that was closer to half bleach and half water. This is when I really started to see changes happening. A few dips later and I had a pretty rad looking jacket.

As much as I wanted the dip died look, I knew I couldn't replicate this again if I tried. However, I could definitely buy another denim jacket and try the dip dye again. So I dunked the jacket into the one part vinegar and two parts water solution to stop the bleaching process. I went to throw the empty vinegar and bleach bottles into the recycling bin and got a little distracted. It was probably half an hour before I went back to check on the jacket again. When I came back to it, everything had changed. Most of the remaining color had been removed from the bottom of half of the jacket and the top half came out a bit tie-dyed. I was super sad at first, but I quickly grew to love the result.

I have plans to wear it this way for a while and then change it up again. I still want the original intended look and I plan to dip the bottom in bleach once more and then re-dye the top to be dark blue again. So stayed tuned for the next chapter!

Floral Silk Manicure

I was flipping through my copy of Lucky Mag's June issue and I came across a gorgeous pair of floral silk pants by Elizabeth and James. The instant I saw them, I knew I wanted to turn the pretty pattern in to a manicure. I carefully selected colors to match the design on the pants.

After two coats of beige polish as my base, I used a nail brush and my pinks to begin painting flowers on my nails. By dipping my brush in two or three colors at a time, I was able to create more realistic-looking flowers. I used the same technique with my two green polishes to paint leaves on the flowers.

I used my dark blue, lighter green, and a long, thin nail brush to carefully paint stripes on my two accent nails. Then I finished each nail with a blue stripe at the tip and my favorite top coat!

FABBulous Manicures

I got so many compliments on my neon leopard print manicure that I decided to soften it up and use the same technique for my LuckyFABB manicure.

I didn't have the pale yellow I wanted to I did one coat of white polish (OPI's Alpine Snow) with one coat of sheer yellow (Deborah Lippman's Yellow Brick Road) on top. For the peachy centers, I used Julep's Alicia and Essie's A Crewed Interest. For the green, I useed Essie's Navigate Her.

I loved this eye-catching neon pink on Tiffany of Beijos Tiffany!

Kellen of And So It Goes was rockin' a greige mani with a striped accent nail. Love.

While getting my makeup touched up at the Tacori booth, I could help but snap a photo of the makeup artist's glittery nails and ahhmazing jewelry!

The red with glitter gradient accent nail is so perfectly Meghan of Voila! Great color combo!

Another gorgeous glitter gradient was spotted on the beautiful Rebecca of Thirty Five Inch Inseam!

The LuckyFABB West Top 10

Just one short week ago, I was in Santa Monica for Lucky FABB West! With some time to collect my thoughts on the conference, I'm finally ready to share some of my favorite moments from the thrill-packed day! Behold, in chronological order, the top ten stand-out moments of my LuckyFABB West experience!

#1 Zac Posen
After a light breakfast, we all gathered to start off the day by hearing from the charming Zac Posen. It was an absolute thrill to be listening to such a successful-yet-humble man! Amid his abundant advice, my favorites bits were when he encouraged us to look beyond instant gratification with blogging and to be cordial in all we do. I loved when he uttered the familiar adage, "Keep it simple stupid!"--always a great reminder!

It was also hilarious when someone asked Zac if he was wearing a Mockingbird pin from the Hunger Games movie. I already knew that it wasn't since the Etsy seller Dana Schneider was only given the rights to make four for the movie. It was still fun to watch and hear his reaction to the question as he told us it was a vintage snake pin.

#2 Staying True To Your Voice Panel + Bri Emery
The "Staying True To Your Voice" panel sparked a lot of strong opinions both on stage and on Twitter. It seems the topics of sharing your personal life on your blog, responding to "haters," and knowing who you are before you start a blog really get people going! My favorite response to the varied opinions came from Kelsi on Twitter when she said, "Just as a side note (w/ all respect to the lovely ladies) blogging is so personal a don't for one is a must for another."

Some of my favorite points from this panel came from the lovely Bri Emery of Design Love Fest (second from the left). To avoid over saturation, she recommends--and I agree--to spread out your social media posts among various networks. She also aptly stated that growing your blog should be organic but with a purpose.

#3 Jessica Alba
Though I'm not a mother, it was still fun to hear how Jessica Alba started her organic baby products line, The Honest, Co. I absolutely adored her outfit from the Alice + Oliva top to the Giuseppi Zanotti shoes! When I asked what nail color she was rockin', she could only remember that it was some eco line. I'm still wondering which line though!

#4 The House of Zappos
I have to give props to the Zappos Style team! They turned this gorgeous building...

...into a shopaholic's dream otherwise known as the House of Zappos!

#5 Paige Adams Gellar of Paige Denim
Inside the House of Zappos, I was able to meet the founder of Paige Denim, Paige Adams Gellar. She was chatting with us while signing cute little pocket pouches. We bonded over both being born in Utah, she complimented me on my name, and when my upcoming wedding came up, she even suggested that I keep my maiden last name! Too funny!

#6 Mad Men's Janie Bryant and Kiernan Shipka
As a huge Mad Men fan, so it was utterly thrilling to hear from these two lovely ladies! I loved to hear the two of them talk vintage shopping, costumes on the set, and more! I shouldn't have been surprised that Kiernan, who plays Sally Draper on the show, is so mature and well-spoken! She seems to know more about her business and fashion than some women twice her age! The cutest part was when she was waiting for her turn outside, I could see her dancing a bit!

#8 Elizabeth Banks
When I first saw Elizabeth Banks on the agenda, I wasn't immediately sure what she would be there to talk about. Turns out she has a pretty great website covering a variety of topics. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Elizabeth is hysterical and naturally witty. The one piece of advice from her that stuck with me was when she was talking about the start of her site, "It's all about editing." She was definitely one of my favorites of the day!

#9 Randi Zuckerberg
Another delightfully funny speaker was the adorable Randi Zuckerberg of R to Z Media. Her topic was on building your brand with social media, but she offered a lot of insight on internet trends and funny Facebook anecdotes. A few stand out quotes from RZ:

"We live in this amazing world where one person can reach thousands or millions of people."
"People want to live like millionaires, but with a normal salary." (on the demand to be able to rent)
"Every single person in this room is a media company." (on the growing voice of bloggers)

Most of the time she had the room ringing with laughter. It was a lovely way to close out the conference part of the day.

#10 A Fine Frenzy

During the closing cocktail hour, Alison of A Fine Frenzy performed. She is so natural and endearing as she sang; it was perfectly clear that she loves what she does. After her set, Rebecca and I had a chance to meet her where I confirmed she was rocking an Equipment top that I also own (last seen here). I have to say that she really is the sweetest thing!

LuckyFABB West Recap Part 2

In the early evening of my first day in Los Angeles, I attended the the LuckyFABB kickoff party at Kelly Wearstler's flagship store in West Hollywood!

The store was packed full of stylish attendees from all over the country!

Lucky FABB West Recap Part 1

Earlier this week I had the great opportunity to attend Lucky FABB West in Santa Monica. I experience so much in just two days that I'm going to have to split my recap up into multiple parts! Behold, part one!

I arrived early Sunday morning and took the extra time to walk down to the beach and spend some time reading in the sun. However, once I got there, I pretty much spent the entire time people watching. The surfers, the joggers, the cute couples, the young families, the guy with the metal detector--there were all kinds of people there!

I checked into my gorgeous room at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. I later found out that this hotel was decorated by the fabulous Kelly Wearstler--no wonder it looked so good!

The afternoon started off with a brunch at the Viceroy for Lucky FABB attendees hosted by the lovely ladies of RewardStyle! The food was great, but admittedly my favorite part was seeing all of the stylish outfits the other ladies were wearing.

There were many neon details in the crowd. This bright mani on Cassidy of Naturally Curly really caught my eye!

I also adored this Tory Burch necklace spotted on Sade of The Icon Concierge!

After the delicious brunch, we boarded a double decker bus for a shopping safari hosted by the gals of Have to Have.

Soaking up a little sun with Carlina of Allergic to Vanilla!

On this bus ride, I had the honor of meeting the owner of gorgeous hand-painted manicure, Kelsi Smith!

The bus took us to Abbot Kinney in trendy Venice for a little shopping crawl where a spotted many a thing that I wished to take home with me.

And as proof that I can laugh at myself, I present this photo. Take a close look at the outfit; notice anything strange? At some point during the day, I managed to put my vest on inside out (I blame it on travel fatigue!). An not one person said a word to me! I can only hope everyone thought I was trying to start some fun new trend!

Ladies Night at Mira Mira

Earlier this week I made my way to Ladies Night at Mira Mira in San Francisco for nail art fun with local lacquer brand Pams & Kin and co-hosted by Santina of Style by Santina.

The lovely ladies of Mira Mira, Tara and Mira! I love how they were able to wear the same top in two very different ways. It says a lot about how strong their personal style is!

I've been dying to meet Parris and Kiri of Pams & Kin ever since Angie of The Hotness Your Momma Warned You About introduced me to their polish collection. These ladies are every bit as sweet as they looked. It was so much fun to sit and talk with them about their history together and their experiments with creating their polish.

At the nail table, they had a stack of instruction cards to teach you how to do neon leopard, polka dot, and glitter ombre manicures.

Pams & Kin provided a large array of lacquers for attendees to use. Neons, glitters, pastels--the works!

Of course they also had some bottles for sale. I could help myself--I scooped up four new colors!

As for the nails art... I've done a lot of glitter ombre and polka dot manis so I decided to learn the neon leopard. After a rough start on the pinky nail, I got a hang of the technique and I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out!

Thanks to all of the lovely ladies there for the wonderful time! Can't wait for the next ladies night!

See Right Through You

I recently snagged these Methacralyte (say that word out loud--it's fun!) heeled sandals from Zara online and they could not get on my feet fast enough. They are the perfect neutral spring shoe which means I'm going to be wearing them with pretty much everything for the next few months (Read: You're going to see these shoes on the blog a lot!) For their debut, I decided to keep with the see-through theme and slip a sheer blouse underneath a crochet tank. I wore a basic pair of skinny jeans to keep it simple, but added a touch of color with multi-colored arm stacks and a neon satchel!

I've been sort of hooked on the fun app Pose lately--have you heard of it? If you haven't, allow me to make a little introduction! It's an app for iPhones and Android devices that allows you to share self-photographed snapshots of your personal style. It has not only been a fun way for me to share exclusive outfit details, but it's been a fresh source of style inspiration! Konad Crazy

I returned from an impromptu wedding planning trip to Utah to a bunch of new toys. After months of it sitting in my Amazon shopping cart, I finally broke down and purchased a Konad stamping kit as well as an assortment of brushes and dotting tools. I honestly couldn't tell you why I waited so long and I wish I would have done it sooner!

Right away, I stamped some blue zig zag stripes on top of Essie's A Crewed Interest.

Of course, I couldn't stop there! I convinced my roommate to let me practice on her nails. She chose a canvas of Essie's Lilacism with Julep's Anne stamped in a heart shape on top.

But of course, I couldn't resist trying another design. On top of a base of Julep's Susie, I stamped a floral design with Essie's Ole Caliente. I used a dotting tool to add peach centers to a few of the flowers with Essie's A Crewed Interest. Using a small nail art brush, I accented with a few leaves of OPI's Jade is the New Black. I'm obsessed with how it turned out.

With these new tools, it's going to be really hard to resist the urge to change my nail polish every single day.

Takin' It Easy

I've been sick all week and have barely left my bed much less get dressed and take outfit photos. The fever and aches are finally gone but I'm still feeling pretty run down so I decided to ease back into my daily routine with a super comfy outfit. These light-as-air pants came to mind right away. The color of the pants paired perfectly with my mint green lace tank. To keep from cold, I put on a yummy-as-oatmeal cardigan and of course I had to thrown in one uncomfortable thing--sky high heels!

Engagement Photoshoot with Portraits to the People

My fiancé Sean flew in last weekend for our engagement photo shoot with Sarah of Portraits to the People. We were scheduled for a late afternoon shoot on Saturday, but Sean woke up super sick and we had to reschedule. Lucky for us, Sarah was able to fit us in before her other shoot on Sunday. And it turned out better than I could have hoped for. In fact, it was perfect!

Sarah was so much fun to shoot with. She was great at giving us direction while still letting us be us. We felt so comfortable in front of her camera.

I'm having a hard time narrowing down my favorites. If I could, I would have posted all of them. But that would be a photo overload. Instead, here are some that my friends and family said they liked.

Dotted Coral Manicure

I'm more than a little in love with the salmon-colored lacquer that came in my March Julep Maven box. "Alicia" was one of two awesome colors that came in my Boho Glam box. I adore it so much that I had to create a manicure centered around it inspired by a Nail Polish Wars mani.

I started with two coats of Julep's Alicia. Next, I used my dotting tool to place random spots of H&M's Coral, OPI's Red Lights Ahead... Where?, Essie's Size Matters, and Essie's California Coral.
The result? Peachy-coral-salmon goodness--all of my favorite colors in one pretty nail design!

Gorgeous, right? I can only hope mine turn out this good! And wish me luck because this weekend's forecast calls for rain. Eep!

Also, if you were wondering how dress shopping went, it was good! After trying on many of the dresses I had on my list (and quite a few others!) I found the one and purchased it. The only downside is it won't be in from the designer until mid-July. Le sigh.

I wish I could share photos, but I don't want to risk any details getting back to my fiance before our big day! But I will tell you it's white, lacy, and makes me feel like a princess! As a consolation, check out these pretty short dresses I spotted at the bridal salon!

Neutrals + Brights

Playing with new color combos has become my favorite closet game of late. Pairing hues I've never worn together before has made me look at my wardrobe in new way. I loved the way the neutral base of grey and nude contrasted against the neon yellow and cobalt blue accessories.

Thought of the day...
Between floral trousers and these cheetah print jeans, I'm super in love with printed pants. Now I just have to decide what print to go with next. Perhaps python? Or ikat? Maybe polka dot? What print are you dying to get your hands on?

Beach & Bocce

Days that are filled with big, fat, heavy, thick, steady rain from before you wake up till after you go to sleep, much like this passed weekend, make me long for warmer, brighter days. Such as this day from a few weekends ago. Days that are spent hanging with good friends next to the beach while playing bocce ball.

Beach for me means light, easy layers by way of a maxi dress and denim jacket, plus my underutilized Converse. Add on a chunky orange chain necklace, a neon satchel, and my favorite sunnies and you've got my perfect beach ensemble.

Thought of the day...
I feel like I need to acknowledge the fact that I've been wearing this neon satchel with pretty much everything. Believe me, I'm as surprised as you are. Who knew how much goes with a bright yellow bag? So when I find something I love, it's hard to put it down for a while.

Anti-Rain Game

Last week, the Bay Area was incredibly grey and dreary with lots and lots of rain. That usually tends to make me want to rebel against the weather.
So I did.
With bare legs and neon.

I wore this anti-rain ensemble (underneath a clear rain coat that caught a lot of funny looks on the train by the way... love it!) to the unveiling of the Christian Louboutin 20th Anniversary capsule collection at Neiman Marcus in San Francisco. Bridal Gown Inspiration

Wedding planning is in full force right now and the big day will be here all too soon! I thought it would be fun to keep you in the loop as I sort through all of the decisions that have to be made. I could easily talk about this stuff every day, but I promise to keep it to no more than once a week. And what better day than the middle of the week, Wedding Wednesday?

I'm trying on dresses this weekend and I'm pretty torn. I've always thought I would want a big poofy ball gown, but now that it's time to pick out a dress, I'm finding I'm open to a lot more than that. Tea length, mermaid, one shoulder--I want to try them all. Except strapless. Why are so many gowns strapless? I don't want every photo of my wedding day to be me tugging at my dress.

Anyway, I digress...

Mint Meets Kelly

About this look...
After my mostly orange look a couple of weeks ago, I've been hooked craving another monochrome look. For St. Patrick's Day, I took the opportunity to wear green-heavy ensemble! Of course, I kept the look simple with nude pumps, a few jewels, and my leopard print clutch. Pairing pastel mint green with kelly green seems to genius to me, I can't believe I haven't done it before!

Floral Manicure

I guess I have a bit of a floral theme going on this week! Floral pants and now a floral manicure! This mani was just a late-night experiment, but I was quite taken with the results and knew I just had to share! Want the look for yourself? Keep reading to see how I did it!

To achieve this look, swipe two coats of Essie's Glamour Purse on each nail and allow them to fully dry.

Put a drop of each pink, red, and/or coral polish (I used California Coral,Super Bossa Nova, Size Matters, In Stitches, and Peach Daiquiri, all Essie) out on a scrap of paper or plastic. For each rose, take a tooth pick or dotting tool or swirl together two or three colors in a small circular shape. Play with placement and size on each nail.

Next, dip a small nail art brush into Essie's Pretty Edgy and paint one or two leaves on almost every flower.

To smooth out and protect your design, finish up with one coat of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat! And you’re done!

Blossoming

About this look...
The trees at the nearby cherry orchard are starting to blossom and we set our clocks back this past weekend--sure signs of spring! No better time to break out the floral ankle pants I hunted down at from H&M! I'm really feeling the floral print!

I sort of wanted to wear every single color possible with these, but I opted to keep it on the tame side and pair them with a colorless shirt and jacket. I brought a bit more color in with my matchy accessories.

Orange Creamsicle

About this look...
Orange has long been a favorite color of mine. There was a time when my closet consisted mostly or peaches, oranges, corals, and not a whole lot else. When I realized that, I put myself on a ban. Slowly, my closet diversified and the orange nearly faded out. With all of the bright colors in stores right now, orange especially, I've found I wanted to be reunited with this color.

I purchased this pair of orange pants from H&M and felt satisfied. I've worn them a few times, mostly with blues, but for this ensemble, I decided to go with a more monochrome look. I pulled my an old coral-orange tank from the depths of my closet and my trusty coral bag. To break it up I through a sheer white button-up blouse over the tank and my gold glitter pumps!
