Comment moderation

I've had comment moderation on my mind for quite some time now. I'm not quite sure what the best way to deal with it is. So I thought I'd ask my readers, you. What do you think?

Points to ponder...
  • I don't think that I have enough traffic to attract comment spammer bots so the word verifcation seems to be over the top. Even if I did, how hard would it be to just delete that comment?
  • Anonymous comments are fine with me except I like to know what kinds of people are interested in reading and commenting on my blog. I'm a curious person like that.
  • Comment approval may take some time for me, especially over weekend when I rarely get on an actual computer.
  • I personally despise having to type out those lame word verifications on other peoples' blogs, so it is a bit hypocritical of me to have the same thing on my blog, right?

Go ahead an make your choices, yes that is plural, on my poll.
Feel free to elaborate on your choices in the comment section on this post.

I hope I get to the bottom of this!

I agree with you--who has the time to check out to see if comments are legit or not? I haven't had any problems with comments--even anonymous ones, even though some are sometimes random. It's all a free speech kinda thing, I think. If you limit what people can say, why would they want to visit your blog? I think respect breeds respect. BTW, I'm hosting another Great Pop'rs Giveaway, starting tomorrow. Aunt Julie is planning a rehearsal dinner in honor of Big Bear and Little Red's upcoming wedding, and she needs your help! Please join the fun tomorrow on my blog, by helping Aunt Julie out!!

I agree that it is really freaking annoying typing the word verification. I get it wrong a lot. And it IS hypocritical to leave it enabled on my blog when I hate it so much. So, I don't know how you'll decide, but I'm turning it off.

I say no verification and no moderation. I agree that if you get a weird comment you can just delete it. We all know when a crazy is commenting versus a bloggy friend.

I say no to either. I used to have word verification, but then I realized it was such a pain and dropped it. I realized I'd rather have moderation than that, if it came to it. I've been without for at least 6 months now and have only had to delete 3 comments. Not bad at all.

I think its okay to have comment moderation... I like to use it on my blog so I can see who is commenting and ( ideally) respond to everyone individually! Great thing to ponder...

I always have moderation on just in case people decide to post something mean or gross...idk I guess its for safety. Soooo I really love your blog by the way!!

yeah, i don't really see a need for those word verifications either. like you said, if it's an unnecessary comment, then i would just delete it. and i would also like to know who leaves those comments!

Oh please Adiel, no word verifications! Those are sick, seriously.

Apart from that, I am indifferent towards moderation. It is a personal choice, no?

Well, looks the majority is feeling about the same way as I am. I'm undecided about anonymous comments, but only because I'm nosy. I already turned the word verification off midway through the day yesterday and I've never used the approval before posting method, so looks like people can write whatever they want to in my comments. :)
