Earth Hour

During my slow morning at work today, I stumbled upon this blog about Earth Hour.
This is something I had never heard of. Then just a few minutes ago, the facebook application "Where I've Been" just sent me an email that said,
"If all Where I've Been users turns off their lights for one hour, we can reduce this year's carbon footprint by approximately 22,290,910 pounds. That's equivalent to saving 400,000 trees or preventing 8.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. WOW!!!"

I'm notorious for seeing both sides of an argument so I'm not really sure how I feel about global warming and whether or not its real, but I think its a good thing to try and reduce our carbon footprint anyhow. After reading more into it, I discovered some people are trying to plan fun things such as candle lit dinners, a night under the stars, etc. I love that positivity!

When pondering what I might do with no electricity for an hour, I kind of shocked myself by realizing just how much I rely on my electronics; laptop, tv, iPod, Blackberry. I came to the conclusion that I could always read a book by candlelight or just spend time with friends, family or my boyfriend. That'd be a lovely way to spend my time actually.

I'm sure some people are thinking, "Yeah, like I can really make a difference." In response to those thoughts, I saw one person share this quote,
"If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito." ~Unknown Author~

So what are your thoughts on Earth Hour? Are you doing it?
What are you gonna do with your hour?
