Weekend recap.

After work on Friday, I had to run some errands. I ended up at Target and decided that storing my shoes in laundry baskets has gotten pretty ridiculous. I was looking for some shelves that I thought might work. They didn't have anything that I loved, but I found some melamine shelves for just $12 so I decided to give them a try. I also tried on a bunch of things from the Go International line and I left with these three items.

I don't know if I love the way the shorts look on me and I don't know what to wear that red top with so they might go back to the store. I love the black top though. I wore it this weekend. I also got a studded belt for only $2.50, I'm going to have to get creative with it though.

When I got home from Target I put together the shoe shelves, but there were a couple problems. My high heels don't fit too well in the allotted space, not all of my shoes fit on the shelves and there isn't really enough room for my clothes to hang and my shelves. See for yourself:
I need more closet space.
Or less clothes and shoes.
If you have any suggestions for my storage problems, let me know.

Later that night, Sean and I met up for dinner and then we went to see the 10:20 showing of The Dark Knight. Wow, that movie brought out the crowds. There were so many people there and we kept running into people that we knew. All I'm going to say about the so I don't spoil it for anyone is that it was long. We didn't get out of the theater till about 1 AM. It was so worth it though.

Saturday, I spent a good portion of the day reading more of The Host. Reading of course led to me falling asleep.

My little brother got his mission call this week. We all went over to my dad's house for him to open it. While we were waiting for everyone to show up, there was a little DDR going on. Randall's girlfriend Jacquie was also taking votes of where he might go. After opening the letter, the news is that Randall will be serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Quito Ecuador mission. He will be leaving October 1st. I'm super proud of my brother and I will be sad to see him leave, but I think its great that he's doing the things he believes in.

After leaving my dad's, I went with a bunch of my friends down to Keys on Main. It was my first time there and I had a great time. It was nice to just relax and hang out with my friends.

Sunday, I spent more time reading and nearly finished the Host. Later, Sean and I went down to Gateway for some delicious food at Happy Sumo. After eating, we walked around the mall for a bit. Surprisingly enough, in the hour we spent there, I didn't buy a single thing. I did get to check out a few of the things I've been eyeing online. The only bad thing about this wonderful afternoon is when I got pooped on by a bird, smack dab on top of my head. So gross!

When we got home, we watched The Island. I had never seen that movie before, and despite hearing many bad things about it, I've always wanted to. Turns out, I quite liked it.

That was my weekend. I was kind of lame and didn't get a single full-bodied outfit picture. I'll have to be more diligent with it from now on.

Hope you all had good weekends as well!

I really admire you for your patience and attention to detail on doing that adorable weekend review post! I did not quite get the Mission thing about your brother, though, probably because we don't have a job equivalent here in Europe (is it a job?).

Anyway, tell me about shortage of storage place! I really have no idea any more what to do with my shoes. Yes, especially the high-heeled ones, and boots... Ideas needed:))

A friend of mine just finished a Peace Corps stint in a more rural town just outside of Quito. How funny.

Things I have found helpful in creating more space for clothing (so I don't have to pare down TOO much):
-Underwear doesn't really need to get folded. If you get those over-the-door type organizers, you can sort them in there and it's pretty satisfying. Then there's more drawer space for foldable things like t-shirts.
-It is a good idea to get those clear shoe holder thingies because then you can stick shoes in them and stow them here and there when you run out of space on your shoe rack and still see what's in them. And then they fit in odd little corners and stuff.
-Same goes for bags as shoes. Or I sometimes hang bags on the same hangers as the outfits I tend to carry them with.

Congrats to Randall!! I am sure you will all miss him but how exciting for him too. AND the bird poop. I would have thrown up, that is just too gross. On the other hand your black shirt is very cute!

Ooooh! I'm excited to see what you thought of The Host! Make sure you tell us!

Ida, nope it's not a job, it's a religious thing.

Alicatstrut, thanks for all the advice. I wish that I liked to fold my clothes, that would certainly help with things like T-shirts. I hate folding though.

Marrdy, Yes, I nearly barfed right there on the street when it happened. Poor Sean didn't know what to say to console me. He just hurried me to a bathroom to clean up.

Apple Joos, I really liked The Host. I think the best thing about it for me is that I could not comprehend what would be a good, satisfactory ending for me, therefore I could in no way guess how it would end. It was one of the best reads I've had in a while.

Cute clothes!

For storage space have you considered one of those shoe rack things that hang on the back of your closet door. Very handy and the heels fit too.

Your friends are totally cute.

Can I just say I love how your closet is currently organized?? I do mine by color and sleeve length or type, lol. From white to black tank tops, then white to black short sleeved, etc. etc. :D

I converted one side of my armoire into a place for all my lingerie, swimsuits, and random accessories. the bottom drawer of my besdside table is for socks. (I don't have a dresser.) I also bought a jewelry cabinet with a mirror on the front so that it does double duty. I hang a couple of my bags directly on hooks on the wall, my two fave black leather ones. They look hot and sort of like fashion art. Then I converted my living room closet into the purse and coat closet with over the door purse hangers (2). At one point I had one wall in my room with glass shelves on it and some hooks placed in abstract arrangement that all my sexiest shoes and matching bags went on. Girls actually loved that my fashion was a part of my room! I liked it too for about 6 months, hehe, then I wanted something new in there. Now I keep those shoe organizer shelves on top of the closet and on bottom of it under my clothes. It gives me just enough space for my shoes, but I don't have as many as I think you do... yet!!!

Mama Kat, door hangers wouldn't work with my closet doors sadly. Also, thanks! You're so nice!

Paint and Soul, the organizing by color is something I learned from my mother. I used to try to organize by the article of clothing as well, but that got to be too much too keep up with.

I don't have a problem with storage space for purses, lingerie, socks, swimwear and sweats/t-shirts. It's the closets space that I have a problem with.

I like the idea of making storage space into art or decor. I'll have to look in to some shadow boxes or something. Good ideas, thanks!
